Calgary Flames fans are continuing to become more enamoured with Ryan Lomberg by the day.
Lomberg will never wow anybody in terms of offensive production, but he brings a certain type of energy to the game that few others can. Whether it’s singing along with the anthem, dancing throughout warmups, or simply sitting with a big grin on his face, his infectious personality has resonated well with Flames fans.
Of course, the fact that he’s more than willing to drop the gloves at any point necessary doesn’t hurt, either.
Last night versus the LA Kings marked the third time this season that Lomberg has had a multi-fight outing. Sensing his team needed a spark after a sluggish start, the 30-year-old first decided to drop the gloves with Tanner Jeannot.

His second tilt came in the third, where this time he chose to stick up for Walker Duehr after he was plastered into the boards by Kings defenceman Kyle Burroughs.
“They were loving it there,” Lomberg said about the crowd’s reaction. “It brings a smile to my face when you can hear the Dome rocking and everybody getting on their feet and excited. Exciting times for us here, so we’re looking forward to continuing down that path.”

Lomberg is such a beauty. Great signing by the Flames.

In typical Lomberg fashion, he was smiling from ear to ear on his way to the box following both fights. After the second one, he even made some time to share a quick laugh with a few fans.

The cameras never caught it, but he even tried to get the fan sitting beside him to chug his beer, which he had a good laugh about after the game.
“Bit of a missed opportunity for him. I told him to chug his beer, he was up on the jumbotron and he took a little sip out of it,” Lomberg said. “Hopefully next time whoever I shout out there hoses the thing and gets the fans going a little bit more.”
Both fights, particularly the first one, seemed to spark the Flames, who were far from their best despite picking up the 2-1 victory. Head coach Ryan Huska raved about the scrappy winger afterward.
“I think the first one [affected the game] without a doubt,” Huska said. “The second one, that’s him, he stands up for teammates all the time. He’s an awesome individual. I think he’s an animal, how he approaches things a lot of the days. He punches above his weight class a lot of nights, and I have a ton of respect for how he plays the game.”
Huska wasn’t the only one who had high praise for Lomberg, as Jonathan Huberdeau also spoke very highly of him, while also throwing in a little joke with it.
“It’s great, it gets the crowd into it as well,” Huberdeau said. “Lomby’s such a good teammate, so positive all the time. Him getting out there and getting in a couple fights obviously gets us going. We wanted to win that one for him getting us momentum back in the building. That’s what we needed.
“We’re still waiting for that hat trick. He’s been talking about it, so we’ll see when he’s going to do it. Two is good, but three [great].”
Lomberg has told the media before that he would like to find a way to get three fights in a game, and that goal hasn’t changed.
“Hopefully the three is coming up, we’ll see,” Lomberg said. “There’s a handful of tough guys on that team, so that would’ve been a good opportunity. It’s the way the game goes [though], happy with the two.”
Thanks in large part to Lomberg’s performance, the Flames were able to pick up their 20th win of the season. They sit just one point shy of the Vancouver Canucks for a playoff spot and will look to jump ahead of them on Monday in a game versus the Chicago Blackhawks.
