Many were surprised to see Rasmus Andersson take the ice for the Calgary Flames on Saturday afternoon versus the New York Islanders.
There had been plenty of chatter that the 29-year-old may be healthy scratched on Saturday in order to prevent injury with a trade believed to be on the horizon. Despite suiting up, however, it still sounds as though a deal involving the pending UFA could be coming in the very near future.
“I think the Bruins stuff is very real,” Sportsnet’s Elliote Friedman said on Saturday. “I think they are very interested. But there are two things that have to be satisfied. Number one, it’s gotta be a trade that the Flames are happy with. And number two, there’s gotta be an extension that the Bruins have in their pocket.
“They are not willing to do this trade, at the current price, unless they have an extension. And we’re obviously not there right now.”
It isn’t just the Bruins who are showing major interest, either. As has been touched on plenty throughout the season, the Vegas Golden Knights are a team that would also love to acquire the Swedish blueliner.
“I also do believe that Vegas is very involved. Don’t forget, the Golden Knights tried to trade for Rasmus Andersson last year around the draft. They weren’t able to get it done. One of the issues there, I believe, is that I don’t think the Golden Knights, as I understand it, can put together as good a package as the Bruins can, at least not at this time.
“But I do think the Golden Knights are very confident that if they want to extend Andersson, they will be able to do it.”

Sounds like Boston and Vegas are the two teams with the most interest.

The Flames opting to dress Andersson on Saturday afternoon suggests that there is still work to be done before a trade goes through, but based on all the noise, fans should expect a deal sooner than later.
