A brand new full-service sushi restaurant, Kuma Yama, Japanese for “Bear on the Mountain,” has opened in the space where the Great Bear Room once resided at the Lake Louise Ski Resort.
Located on the upper level of the Lodge of the Ten Peaks, opposite the Powderkeg Lounge, the Japanese-themed Kuma Yama offers visiting patrons fresh sashimi, steaming ramen bowls, and a range of specialty rolls.
Taking its cue from Executive Chef Scott Green, the menu at Kuma Yama features AAA Alberta beef tataki, nigiri, sashimi, and custom Maki rolls designed and named after the world-famous runs and terrain found in Banff National Park. Kuma Yama also caters to special diets with gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options available.

Drinks wise, the bar serves a range of signature cocktails, including a Sake Caesar and Green Tea-ni, as well as Japanese beer, and both filtered and unfiltered Saki. Kuma Yama also offers a wide selection of locally-sourced specialty teas.
As for design, the 122-seat venue, which received a makeover by RAD Architecture and Interiors, is home to a modern dining room, where a scattering of tables and chairs can be found, in addition to a traditional sushi bar.
