Employment in Canada rose by 378,000 jobs in September, as children returned to school and parents went back to work.
Full-time work saw the highest increase of any other job type, according to the latest Statistics Canada report.
The rise in jobs brought employment levels within 720,000 of the pre-coronavirus level as reported in February by Stats Canada.
“Among Canadians who worked most of their usual hours, the proportion working from home edged down in September, from 26.4% to 25.6%,” reads the report. “Consistent with typical seasonal patterns, the number of Canadians working their usual hours increased notably, with increases among both those working from home, and those working at locations other than home.”
Stats Canada says that employment increased in every province except New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island in September, with the largest gains in Ontario and Quebec.
September also recorded a drop in the unemployment rate to 9%, a declination from its record-high of 13.7% in May.
The accommodation, food services, and retail trade industries were the hit the hardest, and remain the furthest from recovery.
In September, the total number of Canadian workers who were affected by the economic shutdown stood at 1.3 million – an improvement from its peak in April, when that number was 5.5 million.
