Inside Calgary's newest cookie shop with 85+ different flavours

Right at the beginning of the year, Toronto-based Craig’s Cookies revealed that it was looking to expand its reach into Calgary. Now, within the space of a year, Craig’s Cookies has just opened in Cowtown, bringing dozens of unique flavours to the city.
The cookie purveyor was first started in Toronto by owner Craig Pike in 2013. Pike told Dished that, having learnt to bake with his mother as a kid, he would regularly bring cookies to potlucks.
Needing to pay his bills, he began making cookies at home and delivering them on his bike. In the first month of launching, Pike sold a staggering 200 dozen cookies.
By 2018, Pike opened the first Craig’s Cookies location in Toronto, now growing to over 20 locations across Ontario, Newfoundland, and now, YYC.
For those who are unfamiliar, Craig’s is known for its fully loaded cookies, packed with treats such as chunks of Mars Bars, peanut butter cups, and matcha white chocolate.

“Pretty much any treat that’s nostalgic that you loved eating when you were a kid, we’ll throw it in a cookie,” Pike said.
“Every time you come into a Craig’s Cookies, it’s going to be different flavours. They rotate based on what the bakers want to make, which gives you the opportunity when you come in to try something new every single time.”
Inside Craig’s Cookies
Of course, we heard word of a new joint specializing in hefty cookies, packed with treats, and we had to visit. Located in the space that was previously Cob’s Bread on 17th Avenue, the spot has been completely transformed with Craig’s signature pink walls with blue and yellow tiles, giving it a homey feel.

“This is our first cookie shop in Western Canada. I could not be happier that it’s in Calgary,” Pike said.
“I love cowboys, I love the Stampede, and it’s one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada. So I think as far as our brand growing, it was the perfect city to kind of enter into,” Pike added.
And that love is apparent, as with all Craig’s locations, the wall is adorned with art from local artists, with nods to Western culture and the Rocky Mountains.
Upon entering the door, the scent of warm, freshly baked cookies was enough to have us salivating, let alone the sight of rows and rows of cookies on the counter.

While visiting, we tried out one of the holiday specials, the Peppermint Patty cookie, which featured a classic cookie topped with perfectly melted chunks of the popular treat. With a bright and fresh hit of mint, we would absolutely eat this year-round.
But pretty much every cookie on offer at Craig’s will hit the spot. The only trouble is choosing which ones to try first.
