RCMP in Alberta say a 14-day-old infant was fatally mauled by a dog at a rural residence over the Family Day long weekend.

Evansburg RCMP say they responded to assist Alberta Health Services Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at a residence in the area of Entwistle on Sunday, where a dog had bitten a 14-day-old infant inside the home, resulting in serious life-threatening injury.

RCMP arrived to the home and assisted with the landing of STARS, who transported the infant to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

Police say despite best efforts from medical professionals, the infant died. The dog has been surrendered and RCMP are continuing to investigate.

No further updates are expected.
