The campaign to bring IndyCar to Calgary is picking up speed, according to a report by Motorsport.com.

One of the minds behind the event, co-owner of Schmidt Peterson Motorsport, and series team owner Ric Peterson, told Motorsport.com that the event proposed for Stampede Park is “looking pretty darn good.” The event itself would be handled by Indianapolis-based company Green-Savoree Racing Promotions. Peterson says a racing event of this scale would be good news for the city, and that Stampede Park is the perfect spot.

“No doubt about it, Canada still has a real passion for open-wheel racing,” Peterson told Motorsport. “The area just really supports sporting events of all kinds. For example, the Calgary Stampede attracts more than 100,000 people (a day) for more than 10 days in a row!”
