New card collection aims to increase inclusivity this Valentine's Day

Canada is an extremely diverse country, both in the way we live and the way we love.

Though that diversity hasn’t always been properly represented in the greeting card section of Canadian grocers — which is something that a new Valentine’s card collection, Cards For All, is trying to right.

The cards depict a wide variety of relationships, cultures, languages, and sexual orientations in the hopes of representing those who may not always have an option when browsing the greeting card aisle, states a release from London Drugs.

“Valentine’s Day cards don’t always fully capture relationship diversity and the diversity of love,” said Clint Mahlman, President and COO of London Drugs, in the release.

“We are proud to have worked with illustrators to help bring Cards For All to life, filling in some of the gaps that exist in the card aisle today. We’re also proud to have 100% of the proceeds go to United Way initiatives in the communities we serve.”

The 31 cards in the collection were designed by local artists, many of whom belong to the communities their cards represent.

From LGBTQ2S+ cards to those written in some of Canada’s most common unofficial languages, the collection even includes Valentine’s cards for non-romantic relationships — for coworkers, friends, or roommates.

“Everyone deserves to share and receive love,” said Mahlman in the release. “Valentine’s Day needs to be more inclusive and so we are excited to bring this first-ever Cards For All initiative to our customers at select locations.”

“We hope our customers love the cards as much as we do, and we’ll expand it to many more stores next year.”
