In-custody death of Calgary man currently being investigated

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the death of a man who was in police custody on Monday.

Paramedics were called to the 2400 block of Erlton road around 6 am on Monday to assist a man who was believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis, a release from ASIRT states.

While they were with him, he became combative and police were called to assist, states the release. As he was being taken into police custody, he experienced a medical crisis and died after being transported to hospital.

The ASIRT has deemed this an in-custody death, which launched the ongoing investigation.
