Hunter's Moon shining in Calgary's night sky this Saturday

Oct 13 2016, 5:20 am

A deep orange Hunter’s Moon will fill Calgary’s night sky this Saturday, the first full moon since September’s Harvest Moon.

The moon’s colour is due to its appearance near to the horizon; it will also seem slightly bigger, and is sure to make for great lunar photos.

The Hunter’s Moon will rise just after sunset and will set around sunrise, making this the only night in the month when the moon is in the sky all night long.

The moon – also known as the Blood Moon – is named for hunters who killed their prey by fall moonlight in centuries gone by, as they stocked up for winter.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the best time to spot the Hunter’s Moon in Calgary will be Saturday, October 15 at 10:25 pm. So get your long lenses ready!
