The Calgary Flames are entering their fourth-straight season in which they have a major surplus of cap space.
In the midst of a rebuild, GM Craig Conroy chose to remain idle during free agency. That not only results in them sitting with nearly $15 million in cap space, but will also give some of their young talent the opportunity to play significant NHL minutes.
As a whole, the Flames don’t have many players making significant money compared to others around the NHL. That will change in the years to come, but for now, they have the fourth most cap space amongst any team.
While most fans know players’ cap hits, they don’t always know what their salary will be for the upcoming season. With that said, here’s how much every Flames player will earn in 2026-27:

While the Jonathan Huberdeau and Yegor Sharangovich deals aren’t ideal, it thankfully hasn’t resulted in a negative impact for the Flames. On the flip side, they have a few team-friendly deals such as Zach Whitecloud’s.
What should be noted is that Zayne Parekh, Hunter Brzustewicz, Matvei Gridin, and Sam Honzek are all on their entry-level contracts. That means that if any are assigned to the AHL, they would be paid far less. Here’s a look at what they would earn should they spend time with the Wranglers next season.
- Parekh: $85,000
- Brzustewicz: $82,500
- Gridin: $85,000
- Honzek: $82,500
Also of interest is that eight of the players mentioned above are entering the final year of their respective contracts. Ryan Strome, Morgan Frost, Maxim Tysplakov, Joel Hanley, and Brayden Pachal are all pending UFAs, while Adam Klapka, Yan Kuznetsov, and Hunter Brzustewicz are set to become RFAs.
While there are plenty of intriguing free agents who remain up for grabs ahead of the 2026-27 season, fans shouldn’t expect the Flames to scoop any of them up. Instead, they could look to utilize some of their cap space in more trades this coming season to help further improve their future.
