Hospitalizations related to coronavirus have reached dangerous highs in Alberta as of this Tuesday.

New numbers from the Province of Alberta show that there are now 123 people in hospital as a result of the virus, 16 of which are in intensive care units.

The hospitalization rate sits at 4.3%, ICU admissions rate at 0.7%, and case fatality rate at 1.2% with a total of 309 coronavirus-related deaths following the two newly reported ones seen over the past 24 hours.

There have been 1,090 hospitalizations over the course of the pandemic, the majority being in patients over 60 years old.

Tuesday, October 27 marks the second highest that COVID-19 hospitalizations have ever been, falling just two short of October 19’s 110 non-ICU cases and 15 ICU admissions.

These numbers come alongside a record-high active case count of 4,738, which has been steadily rising since a slight dip was seen on October 6.
