Travel across Calgary’s Heritage Park aboard a 1950s locomotive this spring 

Spring has sprung, and Calgary’s Heritage Park is blooming with the addition of a brand new historical experience.

All aboard the Springtime Express, a diesel-electric locomotive from 1951 that’s ready for a new chapter. Tuck into the bright red cabins and travel through the entire Historical Village by rail and experience an Edwardian blast from the past. 

This is the first new engine to be added to the park in nearly 50 years, so you’ll be among the very first to ride a piece of living history.

The 105-minute rolling ride invites guests to sit back, relax, and take in the scenic landscape as the train winds its way through the Village.

A scheduled stop at the Wainwright Hotel makes room for tea, treats, and theatrical performances, blending an energetic vibe with the history of Canadian Prairies. After this, guests will hop back on the train and continue their adventure through time.

Since opening in 1964, Heritage Park has been a steward of history, not only keeping the past alive but also inspiring guests for tomorrow. With almost 100 years of heritage on display, spanning from the fur trade in the 1860s to the petroleum and automobile days of the 1950s, there are over 180 exhibits and structures to explore.

Now, for the first time in almost five decades, a brand-new addition is rolling into the spotlight — once again shining a light on prairie history in a fully immersive way.
