Health Canada recalls three more hand sanitizers

Health Canada has issued a recall for three brands of hand sanitizers because they may pose a risk to people’s health.

They advise anyone with the affected products to stop using them and consult their health care professional if they have concerns.

A recall for Bio Life Hand Sanitizer was issued on November 3 because some of the products may contain methanol, Health Canada said. The gel sanitizer is being recalled by a company in Mississauga, Ontario.

According to the CDC, Methanol is used as an industrial solvent, pesticide, and alternative fuel source, and can have toxic side effects if inhaled, consumed, or absorbed through the skin.

On November 5, Health Canada issued a recall for Siding 14 Brewing Company-Ethanol Sanitizer 80%.

The affected products contain technical grade ethanol, which the department says may pose health risks. The liquid sanitizers were also sold before receiving Health Canada approval and are missing risk statements on the label.

The recalling company is in Ponoka, Alberta.

Concept Manufacturing Ltd – Ethanol Sanitizer 75% were recalled on November 12.

The gel sanitizer, also called Sani-Soft Sanitizing Skin Cleanser, contains technical grade ethanol and was sold prior to being approved. The product is also missing a risk statement.

The company recalling the product is in West Kelowna, British Columbia.

Health Canada has issued several hand sanitizer recalls since the start of the pandemic, when businesses began making hand-sanitizer to help stop the spread of the virus.

The department keeps an updated list on their website of the hand sanitizers it has recalled.
