There is no better way to truly celebrate Halloween than getting scared. Whether you prefer the tamer thrills of a spooky ghost tour or the scream-worthy sights inside a haunted house, Calgary’s abundance of terrifying events won’t leave you disappointed.

Here are 11 haunted houses and ghost tours to visit during Halloween 2015:

Haunted houses

Grim Manor

  • What: Grim Manor, Calgary’s newest Halloween attraction, is a haunted house with a backstory that will leave you with goosebumps.
  • Where: Sunridge Mall – 2525 36 Ave NE
  • When: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in October from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Thursday, October 15 to Saturday, October 31
  • Cost: $13

AirScares Airdrie Haunted House

  • What: Airdrie’s fourth annual haunted house features realistic special effects, hidden mazes, a mind freak room, anamatronic props and actors competing for the most number of “unicorns” – the house’s safe word that guests can yell to be escorted out of the house if they’re too scared.
  • Where: Blue Grass Nursery – 260130B Writing Creek Crescent, Rocky View No. 44
  • When: Wednesday, October 21 to Saturday, October 31; 7 to 10 p.m., times vary

Haunted Calgary’s The Coven

  • What: Visit this attraction set in Salem Massachusetts in 1692, where you can choose to have live actors (high scare) or no actors (low scare).
  • Where: 222 Rocky Ridge Bay NW
  • When: October 30, 31 and November 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Cost: By Donation ($10 Recommended plus two cans of food per person)

Scream Fest

  • What: ScreamFest is one of Canada’s largest and scariest Halloween events. Experience eight haunted houses, carnival games and more.
  • Where: The Grandstand Building, Stampede Park – 20 Roundup Way SE
  • When: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October and Thursday, October 29
  • Cost: $25 for adult. Recommended for ages 13 and over.

Samantha – A Calgary Haunted Attraction

  • What: A residential home in Bridlewood has turned into a haunted house and this year’s theme is Samantha – the story of strange family and a creepy little girl. This guided tour is an all ages event with a limit of four per party.
  • Where: 231 Bridlewood Circle, Calgary
  • When: Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31; 6 to 10 p.m.
  • Cost: By donation, proceeds go to the Calgary Humane Society

Shawnessy Haunted House

  • What: A home in Shawnessy is haunted for Halloween and open to everyone. Boasting 55-feet of terror, the haunted house is free to enter but donations are accepted for the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. Organizers say the house is moderately scary and can be toned down for kids by request.
  • Where: 78 Shawbrooke Rise SW, Calgary
  • When: Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31; 6 to 9 p.m.

Silverado Drive Haunted House

  • When: For over 25 years the house on Midglen Way has been haunted at Halloween, featuring spooky decorations, scenes and effects for those willing to get a scare. Now, they’ve moved to Silverado Drive for the 2015 event.
  • Where: 407 Silverado Drive SW, Calgary
  • When: Saturday, October 31; dusk to midnight

Calgary Ghost Tours

  • What: Halloween is the perfect time to enjoy the creepy tales served up on this Calgary ghost tour.
  • Where: Various
  • When: Every Friday and Saturday in October; Saturday, October 31 at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Cost: $15 for adults, $10 for children aged six to 12

Halloween at The Fairmont Banff Springs

  • What: Join the historic hotel for an exclusive heritage ghost tour of the famous Fairmont Banff Springs.
  • When: Friday, October 23 to Friday, October 30

The Ghosts of Fish Creek Provincial Park

  • What: Learn about the ghosts that are said to have haunted the area. The event is great for all ages, but keep in mind that it may scare younger children.

Behind the Scenes Tour: Halloween

  • What: Glenbow opens up their storage area for a spooky behind-the-scenes tour of their haunted halls and artifacts. Not suitable for children under 12.
  • Where: Glenbow – 130 9th Ave S.E., Calgary
  • When: Monday, October 26 to Wednesday, October 28; 6 p.m.
  • Cost: $12 for members, $16 for general public
