If you’re a fan of thrifting and upcycling textiles, you’ll definitely want to check out the Goodwill Impact Centre in Calgary.
This isn’t the typical thrift store experience. Instead of racks, you’ll find massive bins filled with unsorted items, all priced by the pound.
“As a local Calgary non-profit social enterprise, our goal is to impact those closest to us, Albertans with disabilities,” Goodwill’s website states.
It’s the final stop for unsold goods from Goodwill locations before they’re recycled, meaning the selection is constantly changing.
One day, you may find vintage denim or stacks of old books; the next, it could be fabric scraps, home goods, or something totally random.
“92% of every dollar we earn goes directly into supporting our mission. So, when you shop at the Calgary Impact Centre Outlet Store & Donation Centre, you support local in more ways than you know.”
How it works
Items are sold by weight at $1.65 per pound, while furniture and specialty items are individually priced.
- Large blue bins are filled with various items and placed throughout the outlet store.
- Shoppers line up at designated yellow markers.
- Once a new bin is placed, staff will give the signal to begin searching.
- When you’re all finished, weigh your items at checkout and pay by the pound.
Whether you’re looking for fabric to make quilt, want some pieces for a collage or are hoping for something unique, this is the perfect spot to hit up.

Goodwill
Unsurprisingly, it gets pretty busy, so be kind to your fellow shoppers and get ready to dig for treasure!
