One of Calgary’s favourite winter events won’t be happening this year.

The glow Downtown Winter Light Festival has been postponed due to COVID-19.

“In light of the circumstances surrounding the pandemic, and with the health and safety of all Calgarians in mind, glow Downtown Winter Light Festival 2021 is officially postponed until February 2022,” reads a statement from the festival.

The decision to postpone the annual event to 2022 was not made lightly. Organizers of glow Winter Light Festival spoke with health experts, festival partners, and artists to determine what was the right, and the safest, thing to do.

“Making the decision to postpone to 2022 was difficult on so many levels. We had really hoped we could start the New Year on a much brighter note, but as time progressed it became clear that postponing is what needed to happen,” says Jennifer Rempel, Calgary Downtown Association, General Manager.

“We will take all the lessons, successes and challenges from 2020-21, and continue to navigate this evolving situation so that our 2022 glow events can beam brighter and safely light up Downtown Calgary for everyone to enjoy,” said Rempel.

The glow team, along with the Calgary Downtown Association board, are working closely with the City of Calgary for a safe and fun festival for next year.
