The event is the creation of Calgary’s own Mike Morrison, owner of Mike’s Bloggity Blog and author of Calgary By Bike.
“I loved Love, Simon and think it’s a really important movie, so I rented out a movie theatre and raised enough money for 230 people to see it for free. If you’d like to come, please come,” Morrison wrote on the event’s Facebook page.
The movie is about a 17-year-old boy who is keeping his homosexuality a secret, and the trials he faces as others discover his identity.
Donations to Calgary Pride will be accepted from anyone willing to give, but are not necessary for those hoping to see the movie.
Tickets to the screening will be on a first come, first served basis starting at 9 am on Sunday, April 8. It is recommended to get there a bit early to ensure yourself a seat, as there are only 230 tickets available.
Only one ticket per person will be permitted, so make sure the whole crew arrives on time!
