Calgary still has a thin, frozen layer of snow covering most of the lawns and parks around the area, but a high of 8°C today and relatively mild temperatures throughout the rest of the week could thaw what snow remains, potentially dashing the dreams of a white Christmas.
While the city of Calgary hasn’t seen a proper snowfall for what has seemed like the entirety of December, some fresh flakes are in the forecast for next Tuesday, December 25.
Environment Canada pegs the possibility of flurries at 30% both on Christmas Eve night and Christmas Day, while The Weather Network bumps that forecast up to a 60% chance of light snow.
We’re going to have to go with The Weather Network on this one, because a beautiful, light falling of snow on the most magical day of the year is what dreams holiday TV specials are made of.
The days leading up to Tuesday are both chilly and beautiful, with mainly sunny skies, a few clouds, and a low of around -10°C.
Christmas night is when the real Calgary cold comes in, with temperatures plummeting down to -15°C. Making it the perfect night to cozy up by the fire with some friends, family, and a few (spiked) hot chocolates.
