A Calgary-born businessman has seen a slight drop in his wealth, according to Forbes‘ yearly ranking of billionaires.

Garrett Camp lands at the #717 spot on the 2025 ranking with a massive $5 billion, a small drop from the $5.1 billion the business magazine placed Camp at last year.

Camp co-founded the global car-ride app Uber in 2009, forever revolutionizing the taxi and delivery industries. While Camp may not be one of the most widely recognized names on the list, he has undoubtedly had a profound impact on lives across the world.

Camp stepped down from the Uber board in 2020 but still holds four per cent of its outstanding shares. He also runs a charitable foundation, Camp.org, which has developed free software to help recognize deepfakes and a platform to help non-profit organizations raise money.

However, this businessman didn’t just become uber-wealthy through Uber.

Alongside transforming the ride-share industry, Camp also founded venture capital firm Expa. Through this, he has assembled a portfolio of companies, including online prenuptial service Firstand Aero, the business helping regular folks fly on private jets.

Camp isn’t the only Albertan on the list. Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz saw his wealth surge on the Forbes ranking.

The highest-ranking Canadian on the list was Jim Pattison, at a jaw-dropping $11.4 billion.

Coming in first place overall on the Forbes ranking was Tesla founder Elon Musk, with a staggering net worth of $342 billion. Mark Zuckerberg came in second place with $216 billion, while Jeff Bezos followed in third with $215 billion. The world’s richest woman was Walmart heir Alice Walton at $101 billion.

Forbes added that there are now more billionaires than ever: 3,028 entrepreneurs, investors and heirs make up this year’s ranking, 247 more than a year ago. Not only are there more of them, but they’re also richer than ever, worth $16.1 trillion in the aggregate — up nearly $2 trillion over 2023 and $1.1. trillion above the previous record set in 2021. The U.S. has a record 902 billionaires, followed by China (516, including Hong Kong) and India (205).

In all, 288 new people joined the annual billionaires ranking this year. That includes celebrities such as rock star Bruce Springsteen ($1.2 billion), movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger ($1.1 billion) and comedian Jerry Seinfeld ($1.1 billion).
