Any meal is always better served up with a side of live entertainment. Here are five of the best places in Calgary to go to where you can eat great food while enjoying a show.

1 .The Blues Can

This spot is always buzzing with live blues music playing every night of the week. Stop by for some Southern hospitality that’ll undoubtedly fill your soul with velvety sounds of blues music as you fill your stomach with Southern Creole-style food. Serving up blackened fish Po’boys, jambalaya, and Cajun mac and cheese with corn bread, this place is as Southern as sweet tea.

Address: 1429 9 Avenue SE

2.  Gravity Espresso and Wine Bar

Opening the floor to local and touring talents, Gravity has live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings with ticket prices ranging from pay what you can to $10 going towards supporting the performer (prices vary for featured performers). The generously stacked cheese boards pair as well with the live tunes as it does with their wine selection. You must try their curried sweet potato, red lentil, and carrot soup and one of their deluxe panini.

3. Oak Tree Tavern

Serving up hearty Irish dishes like Guinness beef stew, sloppy Joes, and beer braised chicken sandwiches (along with veggie options like carrot and yam hummus served with naan or a house made vegan burger), you’ll get a taste of home cooking along with great entertainment. Laugh your Wednesday evening away with Jupiter Comedy starting at 8pm for $10 or come by for Thrash, Twang, and Thunder Thursdays (and pay what you can) or for live-music on Saturdays at 9 pm to soak up sounds of blues and old-timey rock. If you’re intrigued by Irish music, come by on Sundays at 4 pm for a traditional music lesson.
