Flames sign 19-year-old prospect Andrew Mangiapane

The Calgary Flames have signed 19-year-old prospect Andrew Mangiapane to an entry-level contract.

Mangiapane, a 5’10”, 170-pound left winger is playing in his third season with the Barrie Colts of the OHL where he has 106 points (51-55-106) in 59 games. He ranks second in the OHL in goals and sixth in points.

The Flames have to be pleased with Mangiapane’s development after picking him in the 6th round of last year’s NHL Draft.

Mangiapane has been a high scorer in each of his three OHL seasons despite the fact that he’s undersized, which is perhaps why he was picked so late in the draft. It will be up to him to prove that he can translate his success in junior to the pro game.
