Another team called Calgary Flames about trading for Vladar: report

It may not be long before we see the Calgary Flames turn to a full-time tandem between Dustin Wolf and Devin Cooley.

The two goaltenders are currently on the Flames roster, though Cooley is expected to be re-assigned to the Calgary Wranglers once Dan Vladar is healthy.

Vladar, who is set to become a UFA at the end of the season, was listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury after being left hung out to dry in Thursday’s 8-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Aside from his most recent outing, Vladar has been solid for the Flames, putting together a respectable 6-6-4 record. Given his contract status paired with Cooley being signed through 2025-26, his name has been mentioned in trade rumours, and, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the Carolina Hurricanes may be interested.

“I do believe [the Hurricanes] called the Calgary Flames,” Seravalli said on the Flames Nation Barn Burner Podcast.

The Hurricanes’ interest in acquiring a goalie makes plenty of sense, as Frederik Andersen has played in just four games this season due to injury after suiting up for just 16 in 2023-24. Vladar doesn’t seem to be the only goalie they have an interest in, however.

“They’ve called a thousand people over the last couple weeks to try and understand what the goaltending market looks like. I’m told they’re going to be pretty patient.”

Vladar has value on the trade market, given that he’d be one of the cheaper goalies available with a cap hit of just $2.2 million. His career numbers of a 3.02 GAA paired with a .892 SV%, however, would limit the Flames as to what they may be able to get in return.

A move involving Vladar is nowhere near imminent, but he will be a name popping up on trade bait lists as we inch closer to the March 5 deadline.
