Treat yourself to a swanky 5-course dinner with wine pairings at the stunning Deane House

Question: When’s the last time you booked an evening to treat yourself?

Another question: Do you have plans this week?

If you’re free on Thursday, May 17, you’ll have the unique opportunity to attend an intimate evening in the private Library Room at the Deane House on 9th Avenue SE.

Talented Dean House chef, Jamie Harling, and esteemed wine expert Ana Fabiano, will be coming together for a fine dining celebration of Canadian cuisine and Rioja Wines. The affair is set to feature a locally-sourced menu that shines a spotlight on what chef Harling brings to the table of one of Canada’s best restaurants.

Each dish will be thoughtfully paired with single origin wines from the great Rioja region of Spain. It’s going to be the ultimate gastronomic experience where co-host and two-time author of The Wine Region of Rioja, Fabiano, will take you through the intricacies of the region and the wines they produce.

Inspired by true Canadian cuisine, the meal starts off with cured sablefish, followed by a delicious lamb tartare with pickled ramps and puffed barley. This is just getting you warmed up for the third course; mustard-braised rabbit agnolotti.

By this point, you’ll have savoured the flavours of each inventive dish before tucking into the succulent grilled beef with charcoal hollandaise. After this, you’ll finish off the evening on a sweet high note with rhubarb crostata served with Rioja Blanco or Rosado.

Rioja Wines you’ll get to enjoy with the first four courses (in order) include: Vivanco Rioja Crianza (2013), Campo Viejo Reserva, Izadi Rioja Reserva (2013), and García Carrión Antaño Rioja Reserva 2013.

Tickets to this evening at the Deane House cost $90 per person and this includes all of your food and wine for the night, plus gratuity. So you literally don’t have to bring anything else with you, apart from your phone because you’ll want to Instagram the decadent food presentation.

Make sure to book your space soon by phone at 403-264-0595 or by emailing [email protected], to avoid disappointment. Evenings like this don’t come around very often so it’s the only excuse you need for a late Mother’s Day present or that upcoming birthday.

The wine

Rioja Wines are protected by the oldest Designation of Origin in Spain which was officially recognized in 1925. Since 1991, it is the first and one of only two regions in Spain to be awarded the highest category – Calificada, where all wines must be bottled at origin.

Sophisticated and stringent quality control is implemented through every step of Rioja wine production. The winemaker produces 300 million litres per year and 90% of this is red.
