Twitter turns 10: Here are the first tweets of famous Calgarians

Dec 19 2017, 11:15 am

Here’s something that’s sure to make you feel old: Twitter turns 10 today. That’s right, the social media giant that allows anyone to have a voice – for better or for worse – is now a decade old.

To celebrate, we dug deep into the archives of Twitter (ok, we might have just used this app) and discovered the very first tweets of 10 notable Calgary and Alberta personalities.

Kiesza

Five years ago, Kiesza was going to school early to practice – but practice what? Singing? Dancing? Math? We’ll never know.

Jann Arden

Jann apparently needed some persuading to join Twitter – but alas, here she is.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi

Where would we be without Mayor Nenshi’s tweets about lost dogs in Calgary? No where.

Tegan and Sara

This tweet by the twin sister singing duo is kind of amazing. While accurate, they also seem to refer to themselves as one person – creepy or endearing? Hard to say.

Heather Marks

Model Heather Marks was in Copenhagen, and it was chilly. You’d think Calgary would have toughened her skin.

Jessica Parker Kennedy

The actress from Calgary wanted to let you know that she’s on Twitter.

Stephen Harper

Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper really wanted you to check out the Conservative Party’s new website eight years ago.

Bret Hart

The wrestler had to – er – wrestle with eliminating fake accounts back in 2011.

Ted Cruz

Step one: figure out Twitter. Step two: campaign to lead the republican party in the presidential primary.

Elisha Cuthbert

Elisha seemed to be off on the wrong foot with Twitter. She was downright insulted, in fact.
