One man is facing a first-degree murder charge following the fatal attack in Red Deer on Monday.

A release from Red Deer RCMP states that 54-year-old Deng Mabiour is facing charges of first-degree murder, assault of a police officer, and assault with a weapon after 45-year-old Walter Reynolds was assaulted just after 11 am on August 10.

The incident occurred at the Village Mall Walk-In Clinic and resulted in Reynolds being taken to hospital for injuries that he would succumb to shortly after arriving.

“This was not a random attack, and the first degree murder charge speaks to the premeditated nature of this incident,” said Supt. Gerald Grobmeier, Officer in Charge of the Red Deer RCMP, in the release.

“There were many witnesses and people who acted bravely during this assault, and we encourage anyone to reach out for support as these incidents can be traumatic and difficult to process.”

Mabiour is expected at Red Deer Provincial Court on Wednesday.
