What Farabee and Frost had to say after their Calgary Flames debut

Last night wasn’t the result that Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee were searching for in their Calgary Flames debut.

The duo, who were acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night, were a part of a Flames 3-1 loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings. That said, there were positives from both in the outing.

“It’s been a long couple days for them, and I thought they did a good job,” head coach Ryan Huska said. “We [pretty much] threw them into every situation, and I thought both guys handled it well.”

Frost passed the eye test, generating some high-quality chances throughout his 17:21 minutes of ice time. Perhaps his own worst critic, however, he was quick to critique some parts of his game.

“I think I probably turned the puck over a few too many times and gave them some scoring chances,” Frost said. “For me to be effective I kind of have to be playing that way, playing with confidence … felt a little nervous, but once I got that first shift out of the way I felt good.”

Farabee was also used plenty and often, finishing the game with 18:01 in ice time. While held pointless, he saw his debut in a more positive light.

“I felt pretty good,” Farabee said. “Thought I had pretty good legs. Just tried to read off my line mates, kind of learning as I went. I thought we took control of the play. A couple bad bounces, I think we hit three crossbars. Could have went either way, in my opinion. I felt pretty good out there.”

It wasn’t an easy game for either to play in, as they’ve hardly gotten the own chance to meet, let alone skate with their own teammates. That said, their new teammates seem to be doing a great job at welcoming them to the group.

“Everyone in the room was so great to Joel and I, made us feel welcome,” Frost said. “It felt like we could just go play our game.”

Their teammates, particularly the veterans who have been around the game for some time, commended them for how quickly they were able to adjust and fit in.

“It’s always hard coming into a new team, everything happens so quick, you’ve just got to put everything else that’s going on off the ice aside and come up ready to play,” Nazem Kadri – who played on a line with Farabee – said. “I think [Farabee] did a great job tonight. Had lots of energy, made some plays with the puck, and I think we had some good chemistry tonight.

“I thought [Frost] was good too. It’s really difficult, the situation they were put in. Mentally, it’s not easy. I think they did a great job. We tried to make them feel as comfortable as possible … I thought they both played well tonight.”

The Flames will have a quick turnaround, as they got on a plane after last night’s outing to head to Seattle to face the Kraken this evening. The two have faced each other once this season back in October, with the Kraken picking up a 2-1 overtime win.
