It’s not often you get handed a $20 bill from an NHL player, but one fan had exactly that experience at a Calgary Flames game last week.
The Minnesota Wild were at the Saddledome last Thursday, and a fan sitting in the first row by the glass got unlucky when a player hit the boards during warmup and spilled their beer. Usually, that would be chalked up to rotten luck, and the fan would have to shell out more money to replace the beer, but that wasn’t the case this time.
Instead, Wild forward Michael McCarron, who was the one responsible for knocking over the beer, noticed what he did and tried to make it right. Later in warmup, the hulking six-foot-six McCarron found the fan and handed them a crisp US$20 bill through the camera hole.
The fan was surprised, to say the least.
“What a weapon, McCarron! Let’s go!” the fan said after getting the money.

That US$20 will translate to about C$28 and should more than cover the cost of another beer at the Saddledome, despite recent price hikes at the concession. Earlier this season, a beer at a Flames game was revealed to cost C$14.25 for an 18-ounce draught of Molson Canadian or Coors Original, up a dollar from last season.
Many hockey fans appreciated McCarron’s good deed on social media.
“Handing a fan $20 through the glass after knocking their beer over is the most Minnesota thing I’ve ever seen, and I mean that as the highest compliment,” said one fan.
“Absolute beauty,” wrote another.
Haha, moment is worth more than the $20 itself. 😂 https://t.co/Xm69Defc5A

“Those McCarrons are great people!” said an impressed fan.
“I feel like this would get me to buy a player’s jersey. Even if I absolutely hated them,” wrote another.
This is epic. Beauty status verified. https://t.co/hILO9zhwo5

It remains unclear whether or not the fan who received the money was rooting for the Flames or Wild. Calgary went on to upset Minnesota in a tight-checking 2-1 victory, but regardless of the result, McCarron surely made this fan’s night and gave him an excellent story to tell for years to come.
