New Facebook "like" options roll out globally today

Dec 19 2017, 11:09 am

When you logged into Facebook for the first time today, you probably noticed something different about the “like” options. The social media giant has rolled out a selection of new emojis that allow users to express a reaction to a post in a quick way.

Hovering over the “like” button will turn up these other options. The traditional “like” option is still available, but now you can react with “love,” “haha,” “wow,” “sad,” or “angry” emojis.

The emoji choices are based on how people have been utilizing “sticker” options in post comments, according to a press release.

Facebook says they’ve been conducting market research for more than a year through surveys and focus groups to make sure this is what their users want. Additionally, these new options have been available in test markets in Spain and Ireland since October of last year.

Now they’re available to users around the world.
