Ex-Calgary Flames coach Darryl Sutter all smiles in hilarious TikTok

Former Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter has once again shown that he’s a much more pleasant individual away from the rink.

Sutter, who last coached the Flames in 2022-23, has a reputation for being hard-nosed and, at times, tough to deal with. That said, many individuals, including several of his former players, have also made note that there is a very kind and caring version of the 67-year-old that not everybody gets to see.

That side of Sutter was recently on display in a TikTok video that has garnered plenty of attention online.

Attending an event at the Kinsella Community Centre in Beaver County, Alta., a group of young women pulled up a picture of an agitated-looking Sutter on their phone. They then took the phone outside of the building, where another woman filming the ordeal captured Sutter himself.

The girls then ask Sutter if he can take a photo of them, to which he kindly obliges. After grabbing the phone, however, Sutter quickly notices himself on the screen, which puts a big smile on his face.

It’s unclear exactly when the photo of Sutter was taken, though the 2021-22 Jack Adams Award winner seemed to remember immediately.

“That’s my picture,” Sutter remarks with a grin in the video. “You think of the worst Saturday you’ve ever had. Look at that.”

Sutter hasn’t returned behind the bench since being fired by the Flames after the 2022-23 season, though he hasn’t had any trouble staying busy.

Aside from his day-to-day work at his ranch in Viking, Alta., he is set to release a book —written by Sportsnet’s Justin Bourne — on Oct. 13. It should be a great read for fans who want an understanding of Sutter’s personality both at and away from the arena.
