Ethan Wyttenbach reveals when he hopes to sign with Calgary Flames

There is arguably no prospect Calgary Flames fans have been talking about more than 19-year-old Ethan Wyttenbach.

While part of an organization that features a ton of young talent, including the likes of Carson Carels, Zayne Parekh, Matvei Gridin, Cole Reschny, and several others, Wyttenbach still seems to hold the most intrigue.

That is largely due to the fact that his underdog-like story makes him a very easy player to root for.

Rather than being selected in the first round like the aforementioned prospects, Wyttenbach waited until pick No. 144 at the 2025 draft to have his name called. At the time, it seemed as though the Flames were taking a gamble on an undersized player with some offensive skill. In other words, it wasn’t a pick that drew a ton of attention when it was first made.

That’s changed in a massive way since.

Wyttenbach had a freshman season for the ages with Quinnipiac in 2025-26. His 59 points led all NCAA players in scoring, while his 25 goals tied him for second. Suddenly, he looks like he may have star potential at the NHL level, and it may not be too long before Flames fans are able to witness it firsthand.

“The goal is to play one more year and then head to Calgary at the end of the season,ā€ Wyttenbach told Alex Mitchell of the New York Post.

In other words, Wyttenbach is looking to have another successful season with Quinnipiac before signing his entry-level deal. Should that come to fruition, it’s possible he joins the Flames late in the season and gets in some NHL games.

Flames fans will also likely have the chance to watch Wyttenbach during the holidays this winter, as he’s expected to crack USA’s roster for the 2027 World Junior Championships.

Though the 2026-27 season could see the Flames go through some tough stretches, the possibility of seeing Wyttenbach and potentially some other young prospects make their debuts will be a nice silver lining for the fan base.
