Environment Canada issues special air quality statement for Calgary

Aug 14 2017, 10:36 pm

“Smoke from forest fires in BC is causing poor air quality and reducing visibility as it pushes across Alberta,” reads a special air quality statement issued by Environment Canada this morning for the Calgary area.

Calgarians are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activities today as the current current Air Quality Health Index is sitting at 5 (out of 10) but was recorded in some places around the city at 10 earlier this morning.

If you are experiencing symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, follow the advice of your healthcare provider, says Environment Canada.

The upside is that the smoke is expected to clear out as a cold front moves through later today.
