Earth Cravings: Gluten-free booth opening at Symons Farmers' Market

Earth Cravings, a new food booth devoted to gluten-free eating at the Symons Valley Ranch Farmers’ Market is slated to open on February 5.

Brought to the market by owner and co-founder Angela Villavicencio, Earth Cravings, which specializes in gluten-free pizza, aims to feed customers wholesome and nutritious food.

At the age of 23 Villavicencio was diagnosed with a severe illness that brought her life as she knew it to a halt. “It was a scary time, but also a blessing in disguise,” says Villavicencio.

Taking healing into her own hands, Villavicencio completely changed her lifestyle and eating habits. Nutrition was an integral part of the recovery process. It was from this dietary adjustment that Earth Cravings was born.

“Earth Cravings is more than just a pizza place, it’s 100 per cent gluten-free, and we do our best to source all of our ingredients locally and organically,” remarks Villavicencio. “We want to help others along their own wellness journey.’

Earth Cravings will showcase five different pizzas, including The Incan Pizza, Pesto Chicken, Beet-za, Fig, and the Do You Dare?, which features crickets–yes you read right, crickets! This unique ingredient choice nods to the eating habits of Villavicencio’s Aboriginal ancestry.

“One thing I’ve learned is that my ancestors ate insects and to this day many still do. However, most societies see this as something dirty. What many of us fail to recognize is that insects, such as crickets, are full of nutrition, even more so than some farmed animals,” elaborates Villavicencio.

In addition to pizzas, the compact eatery will serve fresh-pressed juice, elixirs, and hot chocolate, which will be comprised of house-made chocolate and marshmallows.

Not only is providing high quality, nutrient-dense food and drinks paramount at Earth Cravings, but sustainability is also of great importance. All of the disposables handed out are compostable and the booth at the Farmers’ Market itself is made mostly of recycled wood.
