Country singer from Alberta witnesses Dubai hotel burst into flames

Mackenzie Porter, an Alberta born country singer from Medicine Hat, was one of the many to witness the huge hotel fire that took place in Dubai on New Year’s Eve.

The fire broke out at the 63-storey Address Hotel in Dubai at around 9:30 p.m. local time. Crews were battling flames well into the new year as it took nearly 20 hours to extinguish the flames.

The 25-year-old singer, who now calls Nashville home, was on vacation with her family. She told CTV News, that she was shopping in a mall connected to the hotel just hours prior to the fire and was about to make dinner plans when she was alerted of the situation.

The tower was evacuated and 16 people suffered injuries.
