Drizly alcohol delivery app launches in Calgary

Alcohol delivery service Drizly has finally opened in Calgary, meaning you can now order beer on your smartphone, instead of having to haul ass to the liquor store.

The Drizly app, available for Android and iPhone, allows you to enter your address, see what liquor is available in your local stores, order, and get your delivery within the hour.

You can also schedule deliveries up to 48 hours in advance, or send the beer, wine or liquor to a friend as a gift, for delivery whenever they want.

While there are no mark ups on the booze for sale, there is a $5 delivery fee in Calgary. However, Drizly mainly makes money by charging stores a monthly licence fee.

According to the Drizly website, it is the stores themselves that employ drivers to deliver the alcohol. Drizly never touches the alcohol or delivery.

And if the delivery driver thinks you’re too intoxicated when they arrive, they’ll withhold your order and give you a refund, but deduct a $20 restocking fee.

Launched in 2012 by co-founders Nick Rellas and Justin Robinson, Drizly has raised $32.8 million to date and now operates in 23 cities across the US and Canada.
