The Calgary Flames are set to enter their biggest game of the 2024-25 season this evening versus the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Flames’ playoff chances are slim but not impossible.
Calgary is trying to track down both the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues, who are also in action tonight.
The Wild are set to take on the Anaheim Ducks and need just a single point to clinch a playoff spot. The Blues, meanwhile, could clinch a spot if they’re able to pick up a regulation win in their outing versus the Utah Hockey Club.
The Flames face off against the Golden Knights, a team that has had their number through the three games they’ve played this season.

The Flames will stay alive if any of these scenarios play out:
- Wild lose in regulation + Flames win
- Blues lose in regulation + Flames win
- Blues lose in regulation + Flames lose in overtime/shootout
- Blues win in overtime/shootout + Flames win in regulation
Flames have had trouble with Vegas this season
Calgary’s first outing against Vegas came early in the season on Oct. 29, where the Golden Knights were dominant in a 5-0 win at the T-Mobile Arena. Their second outing, also played at T-Mobile Arena, came on Dec. 29, where the Flames were shut out once again in a 3-0 loss.
The third outing between these two was much more recent, being played at the Saddledome less than two weeks ago on April 5. The Flames put forth a much better effort but wound up falling 3-2 in overtime.
The Flames have been outscored by a lopsided 11-2 total in those three outings. The offence has been rather non-existent, though it’s worth noting that Dustin Wolf started only the last of the three games, kicking aside 31 of the 34 shots he faced in the 3-2 overtime defeat.
The big offensive guns have been quiet, as indicated by their two goals in three games versus Vegas, as Jonathan Huberdeau hasn’t scored a point, while Nazem Kadri has just one assist. Both will need to come up with better outings tonight for the Flames to have a shot.
