Alberta folk hero, internet sensation, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw is one of the subjects for a fundraiser dedicated to ease local food insecurity.
Calgary artist Mandy Stobo has created three portraits of Canadian public health heroines: our own beloved Dr. Hinshaw; Dr. Bonnie Henry, Chief Medical Officer of BC; and Dr. Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada.
The portraits are featured on a limited-edition collection of t-shirts by Canadian fashion brands SophieGrace and Madame Premier, and 100% of the proceeds from the sales of these shirts will be going to local initiatives in Vancouver (Greater Vancouver Food Bank), Calgary (Fresh Routes), and Toronto (Second Harvest) to support food security for vulnerable citizens.
“Both of our brands are focused on honouring women and celebrating their success” stated SophieGrace founder Emma May in an email.
“Seeing these incredible women of science help guide and calm us through these unprecedented times inspired us to do something to help.”
