Danier Leather to close all 76 stores across Canada

Dec 19 2017, 11:12 am

All 76 remaining Danier Leather stores and outlets in Canada will close over the coming weeks after the Canadian leather goods retailer failed to find a buyer. This is the latest development in the company’s future after it filed for bankruptcy protection last month.

Stores across the country began their liquidation process today, which includes all merchandise, store fixtures, furniture, and equipment. The company’s warehouse will also be vacated, with all remaining merchandise transported to stores.

Customers can expect major discounts of between 25% and 75% on all collections, including classic and contemporary outerwear, handbags, wallets, small leather goods, belts, gloves and more.

Over the last two years, the 1972-founded company has seen immense losses due to the abnormally cold and long winter periods, which resulted in the company having a shortage in heavy winter colds and an oversupply of lighter-weight jackets. But more importantly, the rising popularity of down-filled jackets and parkas over the past decade led to the company losing market share in heavy winter apparel.

In recent years, due to increasing competition, there have been a number of major retailer chain closures in Canada, such as Jacob and Mexx.

Danier Leather’s decision to shutter its locations affects nearly 1,300 employees across Canada. There are currently six remaining Danier Leather stores in the Calgary region, including a stores at Market Mall and Chinook Centre.

Starts today! All Danier stores and outlets closing. 25-75% off everything! #danier #leather #sale
