Currie Barracks applies to City of Calgary to begin development’s first phase

Currie Barracks is asking the City of Calgary for the go ahead to build two residential towers and 130,000 square feet of commercial space.

The application marks the first phase of the project’s development which is expected to take more than 10 years to complete. One of the residential towers will be 30 storeys and the other will consist of 18 storeys. According to developer Canada Lands Company, the district will cater to a wide array of purposes.

“Over the next decade, Currie will become Calgary’s most vibrant inner-city urban community, offering residents everything at their doorsteps,” said Canada Lands Company senior director Chris Elkey. “In addition to a wide range of housing opportunities, Currie will create job spaces and provide retail opportunities and green space.”

Canada Lands Company and Embassy BOSA are joint-venture partners. They’ve planned to complete the neighborhood through three phases.

“Embassy BOSA and Canada Lands Company are joint-venture partners in the upcoming phases of the Currie lands. Our initial three phases will truly shape the high-density and vibrant town centre of Currie,” says Embassy BOSA vice-president of development.

“In addition to providing approximately 700 homes, there will be 130,000 square feet of ground floor retail. These are the initial phases, with much more to come in future phases over the next 15 years.”
