Imagine trying to chirp Sidney Crosby.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain recently returned to the lineup following a lower-body injury suffered playing for Team Canada in the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
Crosby’s first game back in the Pens lineup came on Wednesday in Carolina. After taking a penalty in the second period, some Hurricanes fans were sure to give the superstar a hard time over Canada’s crushing Olympic defeat to the United States.

It was unclear to most as to what Crosby and the fan in question were going back and forth about. That’s no longer the case, as the identity of the fan and what was said made its rounds on social media Thursday night.

After hearing the chirps about coming home with a silver medal, Crosby apparently looked back at the fan and quipped, “I’ve got two.” Crosby, of course, is referring to the two Olympic gold medals he and Team Canada captured, in 2010 and 2014. The 2010 win saw Canada defeat the U.S. in overtime, with Crosby scoring the golden goal.
And unlike Jack Hughes, Crosby didn’t seem bothered that his golden goal puck lives at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The fan seemingly took the playful banter in stride, but it served as a great reminder that there isn’t much of anything negative you can say to Crosby, given his incredible career achievements.
Despite coming up short at the Olympics, Crosby has had plenty to smile about as of late.
The Penguins have been one of the NHL’s biggest surprises this season, sitting second in the Metropolitan Division with a 34-18-16 record. Crosby has played a massive role in their success, sitting with 28 goals and 61 points through 57 games.
