Construction progress of Calgary's tallest tower, Brookfield Place (PHOTOS)
Construction of what is set to be Calgary’s tallest tower, Brookfield Place, is well underway. The tower is expected to stand at 810 ft (247 metres), rising above Calgary’s current tallest building, The Bow which sits at 774 ft (236 metres).
Set to open in 2017, not only will Brookfield Place be the new tallest building in Calgary, but the the 56-storey tower will also be the tallest building in Western Canada.
In addition to the East tower, a smaller office tower is being built as well. This one million square foot tower features a 60-foot-high transparent glass pavilion, restaurants, retail, and various amenities.
Brookfield Place will mainly offer office and retail space, but it will also play host to a half-acre lit public plaza. Boasting restaurants and cafés, public art displays, cultural activities and programmed activities provided by Brookfield’s award-winning Arts and Events program, the plaza is sure to become a popular hang out spot for everyone to enjoy.
Located between 1st and 2nd Streets and 6th and 7th Avenues SW, the building is fairly close to the river and offers many nearby shops and restaurants. The LRT is also within a close proximity, making traveling back and forth from work painless.
Today, Cenovus, leading North American oil Company, has committed to one million square feet of the Brookfield Place east tower as an anchor tenant.
