Man dead after falling into crevasse at Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park

RCMP in Alberta say a man was killed after falling into a glacial crevasse on the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park last week.
According to Cpl. Mathew Howell, Jasper RCMP officers were called around at 5:30 p.m. on May 12, 2026, after reports of a man falling into a crevasse in the Columbia Icefield.
“The call involved one of three friends falling into a crevasse in the glacier while they were skiing and snowboarding,” Howell said when speaking with Daily Hive.
Due to the remote location and harsh conditions in the area, the Jasper National Park Visitor Safety Team was deployed at approximately 7:50 p.m. to assist with the response.
When crews arrived, responders advised that the individual had died, but were unable to recover the body at the time.
Howell says the Jasper National Park Visitor Safety Team took over retrieval efforts, and the man’s body was recovered on May 14.
