"I'm pissed off": Coleman sounds off after Flames lose third straight

It’s only seven games into the season, but tensions are already rising within the Calgary Flames dressing room.

Nikita Zadorov sparked a conversation earlier in the day when he suggested some players on the Flames haven’t been playing a team game. Fans hoped that his comments would perhaps spark the group before their game versus the New York Rangers, but that didn’t happen as they instead fell 3-1.

With the loss, the Flames now have a record of 2-4-1 on the year. While early, the losses are already becoming very frustrating to both the team and fan base, as they came plenty and often a season ago. One particularly frustrated player is Blake Coleman, and he didn’t try to hide that when speaking after Tuesday night’s outing.

“At the end of the day, losing’s gotta keep you up at night,” Coleman said. “I know it’s easy to say, but I’m sick of losing. I can speak for the guys in our room, that we’re sick of losing. It burns me up. You’ve got to be one of those guys that hates to lose more than [you love] to win, and I think as a group we’ve just got to have way more fire.

“I’m pissed off. I think a lot of guys are pissed off, and I hope everybody handles that the right way and uses it as motivation. Like I said, I can only focus on myself. We’ve got a lot of good players in this room, and guys that, when we come together we can be a really dangerous team.”

Coleman also took plenty of accountability himself, saying that he needs to be much better than he has been to kick off the 2023-24 season. He and his teammates will all look for improved performances tomorrow night when they welcome the St. Louis Blues to town.
