25th Annual Climb and Run for Wilderness Calgary

Dec 19 2017, 11:22 am

The Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) and the Calgary Tower are hosting the Towerrunning World Association (TWA) race this Saturday, as part of the AWA’s annual Earth Day celebration.

Two main events will be taking place at the 25th Annual Climb and Run for Wilderness at the tower run this year. One is the tower sprint, where you are challenged by elite international athletes to complete a one kilometer sprint around the base of the tower, then up 802 steps to the top. The person with the best time wins, and the race begins at 8 a.m. The second challenge is a test of endurance. Participants will see how many times they can scale the stairs in three hours. The endurance climb runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration for climbers closes today, however if you don’t want to register, there’s still plenty of things to do to celebrate Earth Day. Over 25 vendors and exhibitors will be there including crafts for children. There will also be live entertainment on the main level as well as the top of the tower throughout the event. Celebrities, Dignitaries and even a balloon wielding clown will all be there.
