The City of Calgary has ranked among the top employers in Canada, according to Forbes’ list of Canada’s Best Employers 2016.
Forbes in collaboration with Statista, an online statistics provider, went out to ask employees anonymously, without their employers knowing, which companies and organizations are offering the strongest opportunities.
Forbes asked more than 8,000 Canadian workers to determine on a scale from zero to ten, “how likely they were to recommend their employer to someone else?” The workers were also asked, “how did they feel about the other employers in their industry?” Forbes notes that respondents of these questions were representative of the work force by gender, age, region, education, and ethnicity.
The curated list ranked 250 employers from across 25 industries in Canada.
Highly recognized names that won’t surprise anyone for making the list are Costco at number five, Google at number nine, Apple at number 31, and Microsoft at number 49.
Many of the employers on this list are originally Canadian, with 20 organizations from the “Government Services” category. Among them is the City of Calgary ranking at number 15 on the list, making it the number one organization to work for in Alberta.
The City of Calgary is followed by other Government Services such as, the City of Toronto at number 41, Department of Justice Canada at number 45, Environment Canada at number 51, and City of Edmonton at number 84.
The next best employer to work for in Calgary is Cenovus Energy coming in at number 16 on the list.
