City of Calgary bringing back smoke alarm selfie contest

Sep 29 2016, 3:25 am

The City of Calgary is bringing back their smoke alarm selfie contest in a bid to make you sure your fire safety equipment is up to date.

Smoke alarms expire after 10 years, and the Calgary Fire Department wants to see how you check your alarms.

The prize? A home visit from the Calgary Fire Department, where they’ll hatch an emergency escape plan tailored specifically to you, and they’ll leave a swag bag behind as well.

All you need to do is take a selfie with your fire alarm that shows a good expiry date or a brand new one still in the package and you could have firefighters paying you a visit.

For positive reasons, of course.

You’ll have from now until October 16 to send in your selfies, with the prize winner being drawn on October 17. The winner will be announced on Facebook, so keep your eyes peeled.
