The dogs and cats of Calgary are in urgent need of some forever homes.

The city has decided to host an adopt-a-thon this weekend, with potential pet owners being able to adopt their soon-to-be best friend for half of the usual fee.

The event will run from Friday, October 18 to Sunday, October 20, with cats being adopted for a reduced fee of $81.50 and dogs for $108.50.

You’ll also get a one-year city license, a collar, a bag of food, and a goodie bag full of toys and treats included in all adoptions.

Don’t worry about your new pet’s health records, either, as any cat or dog you adopt will have been spayed, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, licensed, and microchipped.

To sweeten the pot, you’ll get six weeks of pet insurance and a copy of their medical records.

Can’t take in another animal?

You can still help out the city by spaying and neutering any pets you already have to help prevent overpopulation in the future, the release states.

Those who are on the fence can go take a look at their potential new pup or cat by swinging by Animal Services at 2201 Portland Street SE on October 18 from 10 am to 5 pm or October 19 and 20 from 10 am to 3 pm.

The adoptable pets can also be viewed here.
