If you’re looking to escape the late January blahs and your wallet isn’t protesting from holiday bills, there are some pretty good options out there. Want to make it to the U.S. as far as your Canadian dollar can take you or try Asia just in time for Chinese New Year? We rounded up some of the best deals to do a Buzz Last-Minute Getaway.
Kelowna for under $450
Now is the perfect time to get in some skiing at Big White. Flights from Calgary departing February 1 and returning February 8 can be booked through Air Canada or WestJet for $430. Even if skiing isn’t your thing, Kelowna has great restaurants, spas, and cultural events to occupy your time indoors.
Dominican Republic for under $800
The Dominican Republic remains affordable for Canadian travelers.
A package from Sunwing Vacations for $425 (plus taxes and fees) per person has you departing from Calgary on February 1 and returning February 8 and includes a stay at the Hodelpa Garden Suites Golf and Beach Club.
The sprawling resort has a private golf course and spa, horseback riding and tennis. Meals aren’t included but there are restaurants located at the resort in Juan Dolio, Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
Hawaii for under $1,200
WestJet has a package from Calgary to Honolulu departing February 23 and returning March 1. Vacationing in the U.S. is a pricey venture given our low Canadian dollar but there are still reasonable flights and hotel stays including this one at the Aston Waikiki Banyan. There’s no need to rent a car as the hotel is close to the beach, the Waikiki Aquarium, and the Honolulu Zoo and each suite has a fully equipped kitchen.
Beijing for under $1,500
Hoping to be in China for Chinese New Year? Air Canada is offering seven nights from Calgary to Beijing including hotel stay at the Jade Garden for under $1,500. The Jade Garden is located right in the historic city centre and a 12-minute walk to the Forbidden City palace and museum. There are many cultural and free events around Beijing this time of year, including outdoor performances to mark the beginning of the year of the monkey.
