Cardinale: New "red sauce" Italian joint taking flight in Victoria Park

Mama mia! Seems like when one Italian restaurant closes its doors, there’s another one ready to open up in Calgary. This one is Cardinale, setting up to serve “red sauce joint”-style Italian eats in the historic Dafoe Building in Victoria Park.

Cardinale is the sister restaurant to Kensington’s popular and new-ish Hayden Block Smoke & Whiskey BBQ spot.

This new venture is going into a spot that’s been home to a few prior Italian restaurants, too; previous tenants of the space have included Gnocchi’s Pasta House, Valenti’s, and most recently La Vita E Bella.

“Cardinale will introduce a new interpretation of Italian cuisine to Calgary. The focus: Upscale unique cocktails, delicious food with an entertaining inclusive environment,” says the Cardinale team on their Facebook page.

When it comes to the historic space, Cardinale adds: “Our renovations will preserve the heritage but offer a uniquely welcoming environment for all guests.”

Currently in the hiring process, Cardinale is aiming to open later in September.
