Canadian non-profit seeking small businesses to support through grants

May 25 2020, 8:34 pm

A Canadian non-profit is putting a call out to small businesses in the hopes of helping out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company This Bag was created by Susie and Bryan Gay after they realized they wouldn’t be able to open their seasonal business due to coronavirus.

Instead, they launched a non-profit that creates reusable bags with all profits going towards grands to small businesses.

“We are so thankful to all those who have bought a bag and supported the cause, and are elated to be able to start our grant program,” Gay stated in the release.

“Let’s keep the momentum going Canada, so we can help small businesses adapt, and possibly even thrive, amidst the pandemic.”

In the three weeks since launch, This Bag has managed to find a manufacturer in BC to ensure that all of their reusable bags are designed, made, and printed in Canada, and has raised enough funds to start putting together grants for local businesses and charities who are in need of some financial help.

“This Bag was created to support small businesses that make up the framework of our communities. They closed their doors to help keep everyone safe and well,” the release states.

“Now let’s show our gratitude, and offer the support they need to keep their business’ safe and well as they take steps to reopen in this ever changing marketplace.”

If you have a small Canadian business in mind that could use some support, This Bag is asking for nominations by messaging @thisbaghelps on Instagram or emailing [email protected].

Businesses can also apply for grants directly at This Bag’s website, with the first grants expected to be awarded in early June.

The bags are available for $28 each, are made of 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, and the printing is done by a local printer using an environmentally friendly water-based process.

Shipping comes to $3.50 for anywhere in Canada, and the company is offering free shipping on orders of three or more.

Other causes supported by This Bag include feeding a child, giving clean water, and educating a girl.

Not a bad way to give a little something back in the face of a global pandemic.
